Gates of Olympus is a video slot developed by Pragmatic Play, a major business-to-business supplier of online casino content and one of the most widely distributed studios in the iGaming sector. The company was founded in 2015, holds approvals from multiple regulators including the Malta Gaming Authority and the UK Gambling Commission, and uses Gates of Olympus as one of its flagship titles in operator marketing. That is precisely why the same game appears in thousands of lobbies under slightly different configurations.
The mathematical skeleton has three moving parts.
Scatter Pays (pay anywhere). The 6×5 grid holds 30 symbol positions. A win is created when eight or more identical symbols land anywhere on the grid, irrespective of position or adjacency. Payouts scale in three bands: 8 to 9 symbols, 10 to 11 symbols, and 12 or more symbols. There are no paylines, fixed or otherwise. Older metadata on aggregator sites that lists "20 fixed paylines", "243 ways" or "6,000 ways" for this title is legacy provider taxonomy rather than a description of how the game actually resolves wins. The provider's own game description states plainly that symbols pay anywhere on the screen.
Tumble. After a win is paid, the winning symbols are removed and new symbols fall into the vacated positions. If the new arrangement creates another win of 8 or more matching symbols, it pays again, and the cascade continues until no new win forms. A single paid spin can therefore contain a chain of five, six or more consecutive wins. This is the reason the game feels generous even in loss-making sessions: the number of "win events" per unit of turnover is high, while the average value of each event is low.
Random multiplier orbs. Multiplier symbols worth 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x or 500x can drop on any spin in the base game or the feature. They do not form part of a symbol combination; they apply to the total win of the tumble sequence in which they land. Where multiple orbs land, their values are added together, not multiplied, which is a widespread misunderstanding. Four orbs of 50x, 25x, 10x and 5x produce a 90x multiplier on that win, not 62,500x.
Zeus (scatter). The Zeus hand-and-lightning-bolt symbol pays on its own count as well as triggering the feature: 4 scatters pay 3x the stake, 5 scatters pay 5x, and 6 or more scatters pay up to 100x. This dual role, instant payout plus feature trigger, is what some affiliate sites market as a "Super Scatter" mechanic. The label is marketing; the maths is just a scatter with a paytable entry.
